  1. XBox Controller Issues - Frustrated Son and Mom

My son recently got an Xbox One off a friend. We’re new to the gaming world. He keeps getting a message in the middle of games that says “you must connect a controller to play” (paraphrased), even if he has it connected with a cord. We try adjusting/switching the cord, changing batteries, and no matter what, it keeps happening. He’s starting to wonder if it’s an issue with the console and not the controller?! But… another thing about the controller, sometimes it freezes up and he can’t even restart the controller. We’re just not sure what else to try? A new controller?!

    :)

You would have to use a credit card or Paypal to pay off the balance he owes before you can use the prepaid card.

The overdue balance would be tied to his subscription, not his Microsoft account balance. If he had $.53 in his Microsoft account balance, that is most likely still intact since that would not have been enough to pay for a subscription.

So i guess my question is (unless you explained it and I'm not understanding correctly) how can he owe $15.93 if he hasn't purchased anything and had a balance of $.53? I don't think he's subscribed to anything that i don't know about, as he is under parental
supervision and that's the reason why i buy the card so that he can't purchase anything on my debit. I'm just so confused lol i just want the kid to be able to play on live. So I'm just trying to see how that money was spent, how there's a balance and if it
was a mistake or something? Or is the bottom line that I'm going to have to pay the 15 and change and suck it up. Not that it's a lot, just the point. I didn't wanna add my debit info. Reason being is because my son has ordered things in the past thinking
i guess that i had unlimited funds on my card 🤦

Overdue balances are only possible if you are subscribed to a service like Gold or Game Pass. When you purchase a subscription through Xbox it starts a recurring subscription. If it comes time to renew the subscription and you haven't turned off auto-renewal
ahead of that, the system will try to charge you. If they can't charge you, you accrue a balance you have to pay off in order to get back online or use a prepaid card for that service.

Based on the price, I'd bet he took part in the promotion for Game Pass Ultimate for $1 ($14.99 is the regular price and would be the price it would renew at). Since auto-renewal wasn't turned off, the subscription tried to renew. You can view any transactions
and subscriptions on his account at http://account.microsoft.com A subscription can be paid with funds from your Microsoft account balance which is possibly how it was started if
he doesn't have a credit card or Paypal on file, but the overdue balances can't be paid with that method.

    haha

^^ You know a lot of times its fairly obvious the poster is actually the child claiming to be a parent.

But even when they state that they are in the room where he's gaming, how many parents would even have a clue.

Son: " Look Mom. I'm hosting a tenth prestige lobby."

Mom: "Good for you son, did you make sure your homework was done first?"

    Or ..

Son: " Look Mom. I'm hosting a tenth prestige lobby."

Mom:" Shut up ya little brat I'm trying to take a nap!!"

    Or

Son: " Look Mom. I'm hosting a tenth prestige lobby."

Uncle Bill: "Here's $20 if you'll go ride youir bike for an hour"

Child of divorced parents: how can they access Xbox One at two homes?

Thanks again for the answers. Now that I am ready to buy....should I simply buy the Xbox one since that is what his Mom has? I'd rather buy the Xbox S since it is more advanced, but want to avoid issues of backwards/forwards compatibility. How difficult
would it be for my son to use Xbox One at his mom's and then use Xbox one S at my place? TIA.
